Sponsoring BarCamp Melbourne

Submitted by donna on 18 July, 2012 - 11:39

BarCamp Melbourne takes place in just 10 days. Creative Contingencies has thrown some coins in the hat to sponsor the event and help ensure it's free for attendees.  Would-be BarCampers do have to pay $10 up front to secure their place, as spots are limited. Too often, people sign up, but don't show up. A small financial commitment seems to work to reduce the number of no-shows. If attendees do turn up, they get a refund, or the option to donate their fee to a carbon offset scheme.

Sensible API Calls Initiative

More than once I've had people ask for help because the concept and naming of hooks in Drupal both frightens and confuses them. FRIGHTENS and CONFUSES. Sadly, this is a very common occurrence.

In order to address this problem, the SAC (Sensible API Calls) Initiative has been formed. Our first task has been to clarify and simplify alter hooks throughout Drupal. We've opened issue #1510984 on drupal.og and posted an initial patch, which addresses how the alter API is called.

Drupal Downunder Video

Update: Internode have graciously offered to host all videos on their mirror server, please check http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/drupaldownunder/

It's been a while since Drupal Downunder and unfortunately some hardware problems (which will be resolved in the next two weeks or so) have prevented us from posting the conference videos in an easy to download format.

As a work-around, we've decided to make all the videos available for download via bittorrent. The torrent files for the 7.7GB Ogg Theora format and 18GB H264 (MP4) format downloads are attached below. To help seed (please do!) the torrents, please check the instructions on the Drupal Downunder 2012 site

... and last but not least, a huge thankyou to Brian Gilbert for pushing the Ogg files to the high bandwidth server, so I don't have to seed them via my poor ADSL connection only :-)
